Security for my network

SonicWALL manufacture a range of ‘ICSA-certified’ firewall appliances and are an industry leader in small / medium business market. Unlike a PC or server platform the device is completely solid-state and has no moving parts not even a cooling fan. The internal architecture of the device is completely proprietary and as such it is not affected by ‘viruses,’ ‘worms,’ ‘trojans,’ or ‘operator error’ that affect more traditional PC based solutions.

Additionally all SonicWALL security appliances incorporate a hardware VPN (Virtual Private Network) engine that provides secure remote access to the network. All VPN processing is done by the appliance and does not affect server performance. The SonicWALL VPN gateway also provides a primary point of access for remote support.

Further security and network monitoring can be implemented by utilising the following product upgrades:
- Intrusion detection:- ‘deep packet inspection’ technology is used to check every transaction that passes through the firewall. The appliance is continually updated with the latest ‘signatures’ of security threats.
- Content Filtering:- using a dynamic list of ‘undesirable’ web-sites, the network administrator can globally block web-sites by category, ensuring the internet is used for productive rather than time wasting uses.
- View-Point:- provides detailed logging and analysis of all internet usage by user or by traffic type. Gives the network administrator the ability to monitor all aspects of internet usage.
